The LITPC webmaster received the following note with the pictures from Mary Green. I'm sending you verification that I helped and planted 90 trees at the Cross-Timbers Elementary School on April 27, 2012. I received an email back in March from the US Foresters 4th graders plant trees. Our club decided to take on a project. I approched the school district. They went to all the principals in each campus. The principal at Cross-Timbers decided she wanted to do the project. So we ordered 90 trees. One for each student. They arrived the 3rd week of April. A plumbing business in Azle donated 2" PBC pipe to be cut and put in the holes. One of our Lions members who owns a business cut the PBC pipe into 6" lengths and put holes on one side of the pipe. I went to the campus & marked off with a ruler & spray painted places for 90 trees. Rows were 15 feet apart & trees were 15 feet apart which will form a wind break. 3 rows with 30 trees in each row. With the help of Azle Lions, we dug the holes & placed the dirt in Wal-Mart bags so it would be ready for planting. I put mulch in 90 little sandwich bags to be placed around each tree when they were planted. Then on Friday, April 27, I was at the school campus early & I placed the PBC pipe in each hole. Then I opened up each tree which was bagged separately & put them in 5 gallon buckets of water & rinsed off the roots. 10:00 am students began planting trees in the ground. Then they placed the mulch around the trees and watered each tree with milk jugs of water. I helped some students put the dirt around their tree. I leave it up to you to decide to give me credit for planting 90 trees. The idea, preparation and seeing the project thru was my doing. Signed Have a Blessed day, Mary S. Green, President, Azle Lions Club. Member LITPC. LITPC Webmaster note. A job well done by you, President Mary, and the Azle Lions Club. Not only did you plant the trees, you mentored young student's in gardening and the understanding of working together. Some years later these students will remember the day when Lions came to their elementary school and help plant that tree which is now 20 feet tall or more. |
